Notice of ASD School Board Vacancy

The Board of School Directors of the School District of the City of Allentown is seeking applications to fill a vacancy on the Board due to a recent resignation.

In accordance with the School Laws of Pennsylvania, the Board of School Directors intend to fill the vacancy at a public meeting on Thursday, January 6, 2022. The individual appointed will serve until the reorganization meeting in December 2023.  

 Additionally, in accordance with section 322 of the Public School Code of 1949 as amended limits eligibility to: “any citizen of this commonwealth, having a good moral character, being at least eighteen (18) years of age, and having been a resident of the district for at least one (1) year, prior to the date of his election or appointment.” There are further limitations relating to those who hold other government offices or positions in the School District.

Eligible individuals interested in being considered for this vacant position should complete an application (which can be found here) and submit a letter of intent by mail to the Allentown School District Board of School Directors, C/O Secretary to the Board, 31 S. Penn Street, P.O. Box 328, Allentown, PA 18105-0328 or via email to hargettw@allentownsd.org no later than 4:00 pm on Monday, January 3, 2022. Late applications will not be accepted.

All eligible candidates will be interviewed at a public meeting to be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, starting at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, January 13, 2022, immediately following the Finance Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting, a special board meeting will be held to approve the final candidate and any other business that may come before the board. 

All meetings will be held in the Boardroom at the Administration Building located at 31 S. Penn Street, Allentown, PA 18102.
