ASD Board Appoints Jennifer Ramos Acting Superintendent

ALLENTOWN, PA — The Allentown Board of School Directors has named Jennifer Ramos as Acting Superintendent of the Allentown School District, effective Wednesday, July 28.

Jennifer Ramos will replace Dr. Marilyn Martinez, who announced that she is stepping down from her role as Interim Superintendent, effective Tuesday, July 27. The board accepted Dr. Martinez’s resignation and appointed Ramos at its meeting this evening.

“We are very pleased and thankful that Jennifer Ramos will be stepping in to lead the Allentown School District on an interim basis,” said Nancy Wilt, Board President. “She is a highly skilled and dedicated educator, administrator and leader who knows our community very well and will provide stability as our district continues to make progress in our search for the next permanent superintendent of ASD. We also want to thank Dr. Martinez for her leadership and service to our district over the past several months.”

Jennifer Ramos currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent for Operations with the Allentown School District, a position she has held since 2018. For more than 20 years, Ms. Ramos has risen through the ranks within ASD, serving as Executive Director of Elementary Education, Director of Literacy, Principal, Assistant Principal, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy Facilitator, Literacy Coach, and Elementary Teacher. Jennifer has also served as Allentown Principal Leadership Initiative Coordinator and was an Adjunct Education Instructor at East Stroudsburg University.

Ms. Ramos holds a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science from East Stroudsburg University. Additionally, she has earned her Superintendent Letter of Eligibility, Principal Certification, and Supervision of Curriculum and Instruction Certification from Lehigh University.

Dr. Martinez has served as Interim Superintendent since April. She was appointed to temporarily fill the role vacated by Thomas Parker, who stepped down to accept a role at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in his hometown of Flint, Michigan.
