Allentown School District Launches Superintendent’s Reading League
Posted on 06/26/2023

ALLENTOWN, PA — The Allentown School District (ASD) is inviting students, families, faculty and community partners to join the Superintendent’s Reading League.

Participants are invited to share the books they read, as well as the time spent reading, on social media outlets by tagging the Allentown School District on Instagram (@allentownschools), Facebook (@AllentownSchoolDistrict), or Twitter (@AllentownSD), using the hashtag #AllentownReads. The district will share photos of top readers and those who find time to read in unique spots throughout the community.

Through this effort, the District aims to achieve a collective 50,000 minutes read among participants beginning Summer 2023 and throughout the 2023-2024 academic year.

“Reading is the cornerstone of education, opening doors to knowledge, imagination, and endless possibilities,” said Dr. Carol Birks, ASD Superintendent. “Reading ensures that every child has access to diverse literature and by prioritizing reading, we will empower our students, staff and community to become lifelong learners and active participants in an ever-evolving society. We invite our entire learning community to get involved!”

To make logging minutes easier for staff, students, and community members, the district has partnered with Beanstack, a user-friendly platform to track reading progress throughout the summer. Participants can visit the site, search for your school name or “Allentown School District.” Students should login using Clever to track reading minutes and stay motivated and engaged with their reading goals. Families, members of the community and staff who do not have a Clever account can create an account on our “Allentown School District’s Community Site.”

The District is also offering incentives to participants as they accumulate minutes to celebrate their dedication and commitment to reading during the Superintendent's Reading League
