ASD proposes DRAFT 2022-2023 District Calendar

ASD proposes DRAFT 2022-2023 District Calendar
Posted on 01/13/2022

At the January 13 committee meeting, the Allentown School District proposed a DRAFT calendar for the 2022-2023 school year, which includes a major adjustment to the start of the school year. Similar to other area districts in the Lehigh Valley, ASD is now proposing a pre-Labor Day start date for the first time in recent history.

Last year, the board considered a pre-Labor Day start for 2021, but ultimately made a motion to consider a pre-Labor Day start for 2022, in order to give staff and families time to plan for the adjustment. This proposed calendar will allow the district calendar to align better with other districts in the area.

Key dates in the draft calendar include:
-
August 22, 2022 - Teacher Start Date
-
August 29, 2022 - First Day of School for Students
-
September 2 & September 5, 2022 - District Closed for Labor Day Holiday
-
June 7, 2023 - Tentative Last Day for Students

The district age requirement for Kindergarten will remain the same. Parents of children who will turn 5 on or before September 1, can register for Kindergarten starting on February 1. Even if your child does not turn 5 before September 1, parents should plan to register as early as possible.

The calendar has four days built in for emergency school closures (usually due to inclement weather). Commencement for the Class of 2023 will be scheduled and announced in the fall.

Families who have feedback on the proposed calendar can submit their thoughts using Let’s Talk. The calendar will remain in DRAFT form until approved at the January 27 meeting.
