ALLENTOWN, PA — The Allentown Board of School Directors has approved the engagement of Hazard Young Attea and Associates (HYA) to lead the search for the next Allentown School District superintendent.

The board took the action Thursday evening based on the recommendation of the district’s superintendent interview committee. HYA will help the board move forward with the next phase of the search. The board will begin the process by outlining next steps including community input and engagement in identifying the best candidate.

Over the summer, the board will begin recruiting and screening candidates. Board members aim to begin interviewing the selected candidates and make a final decision by September.

“We are pleased to engage HYA and are grateful to our interview committee for making a strong recommendation to the board,” said Nancy Wilt, Board President. “This action will allow us to move ahead with confidence as we seek an innovative and forward-thinking superintendent to lead our school district community into the future. We look forward to working with the interview committee and engaging our entire community around this important process in the weeks and months to come.”

HYA specializes in assisting school boards with the identification and selection of potential superintendent candidates. The firm serves school systems across the country.

The next ASD superintendent will replace Thomas Parker, who stepped down to accept a role at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. In April, the board named Dr. Marilyn Martinez interim superintendent. She will continue to serve in this role until the board hires a permanent superintendent.
