Posted on 04/07/2022

On April 7, the Allentown Board of School Directors unanimously approved the Fact Finder’s report in favor of a new three-year contract with the Allentown Education Association (AEA). The AEA had voted to accept the results of the report on April 4.

The contract includes competitive salary raises to help recruit high-quality teachers and improve staff retention in the district. It also maintains a rich preferred provider organization (PPO) benefits package that could be one of the most competitive in the county. Additionally, the contract features an increase in the starting salary for new teachers to just over $52,000 by December 2022.

“We are very pleased to reach this agreement with the AEA to move forward as a team,” said Dr. John D. Stanford, Superintendent. “We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding work of our educators, especially as they meet the needs of our students during this challenging time. Above all else, we all share in our commitment to the mission of ensuring that Allentown students are prepared with the skills, knowledge and resources to succeed in life.”

“The board recognizes the dedication and hard work  of our teachers, who are the backbone of our district. Our staff have remained steadfast in their commitment to giving our students the best opportunities to succeed now and in the future,” said Board President Nancy Wilt. “We are glad to have an agreement with the AEA and are pleased to be able to provide our staff with increased compensation in recognition of their exceptional efforts during the challenges of the pandemic.”

Approval of the report means any issues that were in dispute have now been resolved. The terms in this report are binding, and the AEA and ASD now have a contract that will expire in June 2023. This contract will be retroactive to 2021.
