While we had an exciting start to the school year, this week we are being challenged by exceedingly hot temperatures in our region and inside our schools.
Today, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees, with a real feel temperature of 101 degrees. That level of heat disrupts student learning and productivity and creates a potential health hazard for students and staff–especially those with underlying medical conditions. Out of an abundance of caution and due to lack of air conditioning in some schools, the District made the decision to dismiss schools early, today, Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
While the District has made historical investments in HVAC upgrades, including adding air-conditioning to eight schools, there is still one more phase of work remaining to complete these upgrades. By strategically investing Federal Funds, the final phase of this project will take place during the Summer of 2024.
For the remainder of the week (Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Thursday, September 7, 2023 and Friday, September 8, 2023), the District will dismiss schools early.
- All Middle and High Schools will dismiss at 11:00 a.m.
- All Elementary Schools & Building 21 will dismiss at 12:15 p.m.
- All LCTI & LCCC Early College schedules remain the same.
- Breakfast & Lunch will be available to all students this week.
- Daily attendance will be taken. Students who do not attend will be marked absent.
Additional information regarding school specific events, athletics & activities will be forthcoming.
