ASD Board Welcomes New Members, Selects President & Vice President

The Allentown School District would like to formally congratulate Ms. Andrene Brown-Nowell and & Ms. Audrey Mathison who have been elected as the new President & Vice President of the Allentown School District Board of Directors! 

The Special Reorganization Meeting, held Thursday, December 7, 2023, also served as an opportunity to swear in newly elected and re-elected board members Audrey Mathison and Andrene Brown Nowell, who both won reelection, and newcomers Daysell Ramirez, Ana Tiburcio, and Zaleeae Sierra. Please help us welcome and congratulate our new and returning board members! 

“Both Ms. Brown-Nowell and Ms. Mathison are veteran members of the board who bring a wealth of leadership and expertise to the School Board,” said Superintendent Dr. Carol D. Birks. “I am excited to partner with our School Board of Directors as we embark on our Strategic Planning Process in order to move the district forward in service to students, staff, and families. Congratulations!” 

Meet President Andrene Brown Nowell: 
Ms. Andrene Brown Nowell is the Executive Director of the Fine Feather Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with at-risk children with a focus on mental health and healing through the arts. She also serves as CEO of Fine Fashion Kids, a children’s fashion company. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. During her first year on the board, she represented Allentown on the Board for Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21. Ms. Brown Nowell is also a parent of Allentown School District students.


Meet Vice President Audrey Mathison: 
Audrey Mathison was first elected to the board in 2015 and has previously served as both Vice President and the immediate past President of the board. A retired educator, working with students has always been very important to her. She enjoys working together with all board members to improve the lives of our students through providing a high-quality education. Ms. Mathison brings her expertise to the Negotiations Committee and also represents ASD on the LCTI JOC. 

Both officers will serve a one-year term, which expires in December 2024.
