ALLENTOWN, PA — During a special board meeting on June 28, the Allentown School District announced several administrative appointments.

Pete Shahda has been named the Principal of Sheridan Elementary School. Mr. Shahda spent the first 15 years of his career teaching at Sheridan Elementary school before becoming an administrator. He served as the elementary dean of students at the school and has been the Assistant Principal of Roosevelt Elementary for the last four years.

“Bringing Mr. Shahda to Sheridan is an incredible opportunity to name a school leader who is truly part of the community,” said Jennifer Bryant, Executive Director of Elementary Education. “Mr. Shahda brings a unique perspective and level of understanding for the Sheridan community as someone who not only worked there as a staff member, but also attended the school as a child.”

Mr. Shahda is a true east sider and a highly-skilled, student-focused instructional leader, who collaborates with all students, staff, families, and the community, to create a positive climate where students feel safe, valued, and nurtured. He is also a member of the Pinebrook Family Answers Board of Directors.

Mr. Shahda currently holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Kings College, a Master of Arts in Classroom Technology from Wilkes University, and a Pennsylvania Principal Certification from Lehigh University.

Additionally, Kyle Kauffman will join ASD as the Director of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math). Mr. Kauffman is a Pennsylvania native who attended Shippensburg University and received his Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University. He spent 20 years in the classroom teaching Physics before he began working as a Senior Educator for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

“The district continues to build capacity at the leadership level, and I am excited to welcome these folks into new and critical positions,” said Dr. John Stanford, superintendent of the Allentown School District.
