ALLENTOWN, PA — At the June 23 board meeting, the Allentown School District approved Ms. Loren Yerger and Mr. W. Kevin Brown as new elementary principals. Mrs. Yerger will now lead Muhlenberg Elementary and Mr. Brown will become principal at Washington Elementary.

Mrs. Yerger currently serves as an instructional math coach at Trexler Middle School and was previously an assistant principal in the East Stroudsburg Area School District. Mrs. Yerger is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Delaware Valley University. She holds a Master's in Educational Leadership, a principal certification from Lehigh University, and a Master's in Elementary Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Mr.  Brown joins ASD from Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida, where he currently serves as an Assistant Principal. Mr. Brown holds a Master's in Educational Leadership from Jacksonville University and a Bachelors in Music Education from Florida State University.

“As we head into the 2022-2023 school year, we are excited to continue to strengthen our leadership team with dynamic and engaging leaders,” said Dr. John D. Stanford, Superintendent. “In order to achieve high-quality organizational governance, ASD strives to recruit and retain talented individuals to serve our students and their families.”

Conner Hughes, current Dean of Students at Dieruff HS will also join the team at Union Terrace Elementary as Assistant Principal. All of the above administrators will begin to transition into their roles on July 1, 2022.

Other items on tonight’s board agenda included a number of other contracts and agreements. The district is excited to announce that these items include a new contract for our ASD Secretarial Educational Support (ESPA/PSEA/NEA Association) for the duration of 5-years. The contract includes a minimum increase of $2,000 per employee.  A number of incentives to help recruit and retain staff are also included in the contract such as tuition and professional development reimbursements and incentives for credits and certifications earned.

“Updating our contracts to reflect the changing labor market will ensure that ASD remains competitive in recruiting new staff and retaining the talented staff we currently employ.” said Superintendent Stanford. “We cannot thank our Educational Support Professionals for the work they do supporting our students and their families each day!”

In line with compensating staff, the district approved a raise in hourly pay (extra pay for extra duty) for those working ASD’s Summer Scholar Experience. This includes our summer staff of Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Security Officers and Food Service Employees.
