Through ACT 158 of 2018 and ACT 6 of 2017, students graduating from a Pennsylvania public high school in 2023 or later will have the flexibility to meet statewide high school graduation requirements through one of the five pathways that fully illustrate their college, career, and community readiness.
Each pathway has specific requirements for graduation including proficiency on Keystone Exams in Algebra 1, Literature, and Biology. Additional pathways approved are the Evidence-Based pathway and Alternative Assessment pathway which include approved evidence-based assessments and projects that allow students to demonstrate proficiency toward college/career readiness in ways other than traditional testing. These pathways include dual enrollment courses, SAT/PSAT/ACT test scores, letter verifying full-time employment after graduation, and service-learning projects. Students with IEP's have access to all available options and can graduate based on IEP goals.
All students must meet the ASD credit requirements and complete one of the state graduation pathways in order to graduate. This requirement is active for the graduating Class of 2023.
