The Allentown School District was awarded the third annual Lehigh Valley Transit Partner Award from Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) at the Authority’s July 9 Annual Meeting. The announcement was made by Owen P. O’Neil, LANTA Executive Director.
“The Lehigh Valley Transit Partner Award recognizes companies, institutions and individuals who make major efforts to facilitate and promote the use of public transit in the Lehigh Valley,” O’Neil said. “We are pleased to recognize the Allentown School District for their partnership in making public transportation more affordable and accessible for thousands of students,” he added. ASD was the first to implement the one-dollar DayPass program for students, which lead the way for other districts and schools to follow.
“Allentown School District is honored to receive this award from LANTA. The partnership with LANTA is an example of one of the many ways ASD has worked to help students safely get to school, work, and home each and every day,” said Thomas Parker, Superintendent of the Allentown School District. “The results have been outstanding with several thousand one-dollar Day Passes sold during the 2018-19 school year.”
In addition to the Lehigh Valley Transit Partner Award LANTA recognized recent retirees including: David Weeks, Walter Welykanicz, Paul Donschietz. Russell Fink, and Gary Diezel.
Amazon.com in Breinigsville, and Lehigh Carbon Community College received the Transit Partner Award since its inception in 2017.
