Allentown School District Partners with Community to Launch Great EXPLORATIONS Summer Learning 2023 for All Students
ALLENTOWN, PA — The Allentown School District is excited to announce its Great EXPLORATIONS Summer Learning 2023 experience for all students in grades K-12!
In partnership with community providers across the City of Allentown, the District has coordinated efforts to ensure that a variety of opportunities are available to ensure students and families are engaged in summer programs that offer exploration in academics, the arts, athletics, social emotional learning, and college and career readiness.
The Allentown School District’s summer programs will run Monday through Thursday each week from June 26, 2023 through August 3, 2023. In observation of the Independence Day Holiday, classes will not be in session July 3 through 4, 2023.
Only students currently enrolled in the Allentown School District are eligible to participate in school offered summer programs. Students will have access to extended learning in core academic subjects including math, literacy, science and technology.
Schools have designed themed programs that offer enrichment activities that may include art, music, STEAM, mindfulness, gardening, dance, cooking, fitness, and field trips. These experiences are designed in partnership with community organizations across the City of Allentown. In addition, the District will assist in communicating and supporting community-based summer program opportunities available for students to ensure families are aware of and have access to a variety of choices.
“We are so energized by the collaboration with our community partners to offer our Great EXPLORATIONS Summer Learning 2023 for our students. The programs designed this summer have been developed by schools in partnership with community providers. The activities are designed to be enriching, fun and innovative!” said Dr. Carol D. Birks, Allentown School District Superintendent. “The design and coordination of the summer offerings across the District and City support the District’s mission that ‘Each and every student will graduate college and career ready by having their individual needs met through active engagement in a rigorous, safe and nurturing learning environment.’ The work that has been accomplished in designing summer learning experiences supports the vision of one Allentown Learning Community dedicated to student growth.”
All schools across the district will offer summer programs for students. However, due to construction and upgrades to HVAC systems, classes for students at Union Terrace Elementary School will be held at Hays Elementary School, Mosser Elementary at Roosevelt Elementary, Ritter Elementary at Sheridan Elementary, and Dodd Elementary at South Mountain Middle School. Additionally, Extended School Year programming for special education students will be available by invitation at Ramos, Roosevelt, South Mountain Middle School, and William Allen High School.
Registration for the summer program opens soon! Families interested in having their student participate in school-based programs should contact their child’s school to sign up or complete our summer interest from: https://bit.ly/3nXbM35
